The Gentleman’s Guide to Cooking Brand

Author Interview
Randy Motilall Author Interview

The Gentleman’s Guide to Cooking details for readers how to prepare a meal from setting the table to creating multi-course meals that will not be forgotten. Why was this an important book for you to write?

When the 2020 pandemic hit I was no longer traveling for work or fun to try new restaurants and meals. As I was home more I started posting my prepared meals on social media and all my friends and family suggested I write a cookbook. I really had no intentions of writing a book, but I have had fun with the process and it has become a great passion now and I am growing my brand with Phase 2 and Phase 3 of The Gentleman’s Guide to Cooking brand.

All of the recipes include beautiful photographs, making them look irresistible. What recipe in the book is your favorite to make?

That is a hard question to answer. I have so many favorites in the book that I keep going back to. They are all great!

Who has had the biggest impact on your cooking?

My parents. From a young age my parents encouraged me to cook and try new things in the kitchen. I also draw a lot of inspiration from various master chefs on Food Network. It would be a dream come true to meet some of them one day.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I have a couple options I am working on now for the second book but I will say it will have a lot more fire in it.

Pages and Leaflets of North Oxfordshire

Pages and Leaflets of North Oxfordshire: My Lineage Pre 1700-1959 by Angela Fortnum is a book on family lineage and history. Fortnum was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Throughout her life, she has taken up several roles. After completing her schooling, she worked in a bank, took early retirement, and did a health and social care course. However, it wasn’t until her mother’s death that her interest in genealogy was rekindled that ultimately led her to write the book that explores her ancestry, going back to her seventh maternal great grandfather (GGF) and finally concludes with her mother and herself.

Fortnums exploration started off as a simple curiosity about her history; it was only when she started with her research that she realized that there was a story to tell and decided to publish the book as we see it today for the interest of the family historians. The book explores the gradual transition over eight generations from agricultural laborers to self-employed to smallholders and a change in religious beliefs, which stays an essential theme throughout the book. Fortnum’s ancestors have worked in various occupations, been affiliated with different churches, and passed on numerous possessions down the family line, the original account of which has been provided wherever possible in the text.

The text is supplemented by original and unabridged documents. It also provides photos of the churches and directions for those curious and who wish to dive deeper into the local history. I would have liked to have seen topics of general interest or more details about the historical events from the ancestors’ perspective and the impact on their general routine. This insightful book is a fascinating family account filled with photos and historical documents.

Pages and Leaflets of North Oxfordshire: My Lineage Pre 1700-1959 would benefit those doing an in-depth academic pursuit of genealogy. It provides readers with examples of how to put together a family genealogy history and examples of what documents to look for.

Simple Preaching Prep

Simple Preaching Prep: A guide to finish your first sermon and flourish beyond. by [Mark Messmore]

In his book Simple Preaching Prep: A guide to finish your first sermon and flourish beyond, Mark Messmore addresses special ways one can preach to ensure that the message they are trying to convey hits home. Mark Messmore writes about the different methodologies you can use and how you can deliver your message with ease. Readers will realize that by going through and reading the simple preaching prep model that the author has demonstrated in the book, they will become an even better preacher than they were before. The prep model involves interviewing the text, narrowing the focus, stating the main idea, including supporting material, delivering the message, and evaluating the result.

I like this book because the content inside is not only great for preachers, but it also works for public speakers in general. Mark Messmore talks about being a great speaker, how to build your oratory skills and how to address different audiences. He gives a step by step guide for people that have never preached, and encourages both new and established preachers. I like how engaging the author is and how pleasant he sounds. Mark Messmore conveys his message in a welcoming and warm manner. As a reader, you feel at ease reading his book and getting to understand what it takes to be the best preacher or speaker.

What makes reading Simple Preaching Prep: A guide to finish your first sermon and flourish beyond pleasurable and interesting is the bible stories that the author uses as examples. Mark Messmore adds bible scriptures and discusses at length some bible stories. He also includes light moments when expounding on the topics and stories, something that encourages one to keep reading. I loved the biblical references in the book. By reading Mark Messmore’s book, one gets a better insight of the bible and God. The author does a fantastic job of simplifying complex ideas so that reader has a better, more comprehensive, understanding of the material.

One of the many lessons I learned in the book includes how to be in sync with your audience and how to capture their full attention. When talking about various audiences, the author is engaging and cordial. Once you read this book, you will reduce your social anxiety by a good fraction and you will gain confidence and be ready to offer your first sermon. This is an effective guidebook for Christian leaders that provides pragmatic advice to help make you a better preacher.

The Sweetest Things a Parent Can Do

Kairen Alaina
Kairen Alaina Author Interview

I Can Do That: A Little Girls’s Day of Big Challenges follows a little girl that, through playing a game with her parents all day, learns some independence and responsibility. What was the inspiration for your story?

Watching my daughter’s journey, with her four young children, reminded me of my bringing up my own three little ones.

Having a busy lifestyle means teaching your children new skills can be frustrating (for both the parent and the child) and time consuming. Sometimes it almost seemed easier to continue doing everything for them, particularly when your child is hesitant or has a fear of failure. Success, however, in imparting those new skills, is rewarding and satisfying. Watching a child glow with pride is one the sweetest things a parent can hope for.

What experience in your life has had the biggest impact on your writing?

I was a prolific writer and reader in high school. Yes! That was quite a long time ago…but it was my escape and my creative outlet. My English teacher was wonderful, so encouraging and with great critiques that, even as a teenager, made me think more about what I wanted to write and how I wrote it. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout the years.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

With ‘I Can Do That’..I wanted to portray a fun, no pressure way for a child to attempt new tasks. I believe the best inspiration comes from watching others succeed and felt that witnessing Scarlett’s satisfaction and pleasure in her new found independence could just be the gentle persuasion needed. I also wanted to highlight that just trying, and doing tasks in your own way, is enough to be considered a success.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

Well, I have four more grandchildren. They all want to join Scarlett in having a book written about them so I am committed to at least four further books. I do have a story idea for the youngest (18 months) to star in, so that will probably come out next. I both write and illustrate (and have a day job) so it’s not a fast process, so I’m hoping within the next 5 months it will be complete.

Can you say ‘I love you’ too much?

Sheila McGraw
Sheila McGraw Author Interview

Of Love and Pies follows a narrator asking the question, ‘can you say I love you, too much’, by representing the phrase with pies. What was the inspiration for your story?

In answer to the first part of your question… Can you say ‘I love you’ too much? If you live in a place where saying I love you means being inundated with pies, then perhaps you can say I love you too much, but in the real world, there’s no limit on saying ‘I love you’. In fact, I highly encourage it!

What was my inspiration?… I was toying with the idea of writing a book in the nonsense genre of Dr Seuss and Edward lear, albeit in a modern way. At the core of this form of writing is generally a concept. I pondered several forms of a rhyming/story/concept about love, but where to start with such an enormous topic, and how to give it a humorous slant? I started exploring actions and reactions. Say I love you (the action) makes for lots of pies (the reaction). It’s silly and fun… besides there can never be too many books about love (or pies).

Then came the illustrations. For decades my art in the book “Love You Forever” has been reducing readers to tears with its message of love that crosses generations. Love You Forever’s soft illustrations were ideal for that book. Of Love and Pies needed something livelier, funnier, and punchier, and I dug in with ink and watercolor paintings that reflect the wild and humorous intent of the text.

What is one thing that people point out after reading your book that surprises you?

Many point out that the frequency of saying I love You has changed over recent generations. Many say they never heard the sentiment as a child but they say it often with their own children, parents, and friends.

What were some of your inspirations as a writer?

I give thanks to the masters of nonsense rhyming verse: Edward Lear, Lewis Carroll, Edward Gorey, Dr. Seuss, and Spike Milligan. Oh, and there’s House of Pies, a restaurant in Houston not far from where I live in Galveston County. The greatest selection of delicious pies ever!

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I currently have two children’s books in the pipeline; a middle-grade adventure book set in New York City, and a graphic novel. Hopefully, both will be out within a year.

“The author presents a relatable yet highly inventive situation, allowing readers the opportunity to think beyond the bounds of the story. A filling fantasy full of fine flavor.” — Kirkus Reviews In the sweet and boisterous story, Of Love and Pies, every I love you brings more pies, which soon begs the question—can there be too much love or too much pie? As pies accumulate, the children’s hands and faces are sticky, and their clothes have berry stains, while outdoors, the kids no longer get stuck in the mud, they get stuck in the pies. With pies heaped to the moon, something’s got to give, and finally, an imaginative compromise brings the story to a happy and loving resolution.

Of Love and Pies by Sheila McGraw is a delightful and engaging children’s book that asks the question, Can you say “I love you” too much? What would happen if you said “I love you,” “every minute or two?” And what would happen if every time you said, “I love you,” multiple pies were baked? Would the streets be overrun with pies? Would pie suddenly become less special? Would there be so many pies that even a giant couldn’t eat them all? What should you do? McGraw provides a wonderful story-poem to answer that question, accompanied by her own colorful illustrations.
Of Love and Pies will keep children and their parents laughing and entertained. Lively and imaginative, this captivating story-poem and the talented Sheila McGraw’s own whimsical illustrations make for a joyful read. This book describes and illustrates vivid scenarios where there are so many pies everywhere that they are literally underfoot. The characters are colorful and magically drawn. The picture of the pies reaching up to the moon is fantastically delightful. The problem is made apparent, and then a creative and heartwarming solution is offered. Does this mean you have to stop saying “I love you?” Of Love and Pies is a great story for parents to read to their kids. It will not only entertain but will also help teach problem-solving skills to children. This charming book would be a great bedtime read for parents and children, and is sure to end with “I love you.” —Bonnie DeMoss, Readers’ Favorite,

Education Should Come First

Author Interview
Clynie Huggins Author Interview

How to Educate Your Children in the 21st Century is a reference book for parents and educators on the challenges of raising children in today’s modern world. Why did you think this was an important book to write?

I Think, My book, ” HOW TO EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY” was a great book to write because of the demand that society puts on our children to have the greatest education that is possible. First So parents need to have everything in order pertaining to the birth of their child. Parents need to be responsible for food , clothing and shelter. Parents need to know if the mom will be a stay at home Mom and keep her child or put the child in a great daycare.

“HOW TO EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY,” is a reference book that I thought would be of great importance for parents and educators on the challenges of raising children in today’s modern society, because of changes in our home life as well as changes in our school system. Children need to grow up in a home where education is prioritized. Education should come first in our homes with children. Children should be taught basic rules and regulations at home as well as at school. Parents should see that their children are placed in the best daycares and schools. Early childhood development education is also stressed as a great educational tool for parents to get and have when raising their children.

How much research did you undertake for this book and how much time did it take to put it all together?

First, my career as an educator, which was a public school teacher supplied me with years of experience and knowledge of my book, “HOW TO EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY”. I had years and years of book materials that I saved to use for my book. I did use some outside material which took me about a year to do research on. Then, it took me about a year to put the book in literary form with the help of a hired publishing company. So, my answer to this question would be two years.

What is one thing that you hope reader take away from How to Educate Your Children in the 21St Century?

One thing that I hope readers take away from this book “HOWTO EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY,” is that this book can serve as an educational guide for all parents with children, educators, and individual adults that want children in the future.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

My next book that I am working on is an extension of my first book, ” HOW TO EDUCATE YOUR CHILDREN IN THE TWENTY FIRST CENTURY.” This book will review the importance of education and the importance of pursuing a higher education by going to a great college or trade school. This book will explain how students’ great education in Elementary, Middle and High school will guide them through a higher education such as College or Trade School, hopefully for all students. This book will also guide students and their parents, teachers and counselors to choose the best College or Trade School for their children and students. Also the best kind of degree that a student can and will pursue will be discussed. I will also write about the preparation of getting loans and grants and the necessary steps and arrangements that have to be taken before enrollment can take place in a College or Trade School.

I hope that this information will answer most of your important questions about my next book, and that you will be patiently waiting for my next book to come out. It’s a great pleasure to help as many children, parents and students that I can help.

Education can be defined as the act or process of acquiring knowledge to develop understanding, reasoning, and judging to be used in any area. Education can be perceived as a life line to quality life. This means that education should be effective, efficient, adequate and powerful. Education can be viewed as the key to success. If success depends upon education, then we as parents want the highest quality of education for our children. We as educators and parents should lead and guide our children effectively in the twenty first century in order to meet the changes and challenges in our schools, communities, and this society.

Guitar

Guitar is the perfect book for you if you are looking to learn about the guitar. By reading this book you not only learn how to play the guitar but you also get to know the different parts of the musical instrument. Ken Jackson also shows readers how to hold the guitar, clean it, along with safekeeping instructions. Learning about the guitar is an interesting and fascinating experience. Like the author puts it, ‘there is more to just playing the guitar’. Clicking on the strings, knowing which fingers to use and which notes to hit best.

The best way to learn any instruments is by looking at the illustrations that accompany the text. There are plenty of images and illustrations that guide you as a reader when you are reading Guitar, and I liked how clear the images were. The reading experience is pleasant because one can easily understand which part of the guitar the author is talking about.

A few pages in one can already feel the love the author has for the guitar. Ken Jackson is passionate when he writes, and this translates to the amazing work he shares with everyone. The author reminds every guitar player, whether a rookie or expert, that there is nothing as soothing as having your instrument and playing any song you want. Owning a guitar is a wonderful thing. By knowing how to play the guitar, you can make a hobby out of it, play it for entertainment or even make some extra cash out of your skill. Ken Jackson’s book will help you realize that learning to play the guitar is not as complicated as some people may assume. All it takes is patience, concentration and passion.

I learned plenty of musical terminologies from the book. Learning the musical jargon and learning new phrases felt powerful. Ken Jackson did an incredible job introducing those that are not familiar with the terminologies. What I also enjoyed was how the author explained and defined the music terms in simple but comprehensive ways. This book is easy to comprehend as the author does not use complex expressions or images. I loved the surprise songs in the book. The author included tens of songs, and showed the reader how to play each of them. Singing the songs and practicing with the notes shared looks like a fun activity both for expert players and newbies.

Guitar by Ken Jackson has great vibes and cheers one up. This book is an exceptional starting point for anyone wanting to learn guitar as it is filled with practical advice and easy to understand instructions that will help level up your guitar skills.

I Wanted To Challenge The Narrative

Samuel Sanders
Samuel Sanders Author Interview

Your Next Big Idea: Improve Your Creativity and Problem-Solving takes readers through the mental process of turning their ideas into actions. Why was this an important book for you to write?

My inspiration came after noticing an omission in entrepreneurship education. When students learn about entrepreneurship, teachers refer to already successful companies, like Google or Apple, but rarely talk about how those founders developed and cultivated their ideas in the first place. This type of teaching does a disservice to students. It can lead to frustration as people ask questions like, “Why didn’t I think of that?” It can also lead to confusion and even damage a person’s creative confidence. Many who experience this omission wonder if they would ever be able to develop an innovative idea, permanently labeling themselves as “not creative.” I wanted to challenge the narrative around how we teach entrepreneurship by creating a nonfiction work that teaches readers how the top creatives and innovators develop ideas in the first place. I do this by taking a step back and examining the ideation process to serve as a foundation for entrepreneurial development.

As someone who grew up where language arts was my weakest subject, I wanted to challenge the typical design of a nonfiction book. I wondered whether a nonfiction book could be redesigned to be a better teaching tool for readers. Research from the University of Chicago, Boston University, and University of Texas show that experiential learning increases comprehension of a subject. While typical books use text and pictures to relay information, I realized that rethinking communication entirely would provide readers the best chance to learn and absorb information. Throughout the book, I included 54 exercises meant to take the reader on an experiential journey that helps them better reinforce and explore the information presented.

What is one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were younger?

The hardest part of accomplishing work is often getting the courage to get started. Once you form a routine it is like a slow-moving train that keeps inching closer and closer until you cross the finish line!

Also if you have a risky idea, try it now. Don’t wait. You never quite know where the idea will take you and you can always stop along the way.

What is one piece of advice someone gave you that changed your life?

It was, “Write about what you know.” If you feel like you have expertise about something, write about it. Putting out a published work in nonfiction will increase your credibility on the subject. This can ultimately lead to new career opportunities, new personal opportunities, and new connections.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I currently have a couple of ideas I am working on! None of them are quite final yet, but I hope to be able to put another creative work out there soon!
