Author Interview
Sarah Voldeng Author Interview

In The Art of an Enlightened Woman, you guide readers to rediscover what it means to be whole and encourage them to live with purpose. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I just really want to share with women that they have this untapped, undiscovered incredible voice inside of them. Sometimes we hear it and ignore it and sometimes we do not hear it at all-or feel it. We become numb to our existence. There is such incredible power when we are able to weave experience into wisdom and strength and we all have this capability, sometimes we just need a reminder.

The Art of an Enlightened Woman is the reminder that all we need is already inside of us.

Can you share with us a little about the research that went into putting this book together?

I have spent the last 25-30 years working with women of all ages encouraging them on their health journey. So many times I have encountered incredible women with low self-esteem, fear and a lack of courage- to really listen to themselves and learn from their experience. I have 2 daughters, beautiful female friendships, mothers, sisters and aunts and truly believe that empowerment is internal but also comes from encouragement. We become who we surround ourselves with. I want to encourage women around the world that we are all strong and capable and more so when we are all empowered. We can create change one woman at a time by standing up for what we believe in and insist that we are valuedjust by who we are.

I spent hours reading women’s history, women’s rights, studying buddhism, philosophy and reading, reading, reading-health journals, medical research and so much more and loved every minute of it. What a beautiful process.

Did you learn anything about yourself while writing The Art of an Enlightened Woman?

I have learned so much. I have learned that there is so much to know in the world. I have so much to continually learn. I do not ever want to be not curious. I want to understand what it was like for the women who have walked the earth before me-and for those to follow. It was also a reminder that this manifesto is something that even I can return to when my strength is wavering.

What is one thing you hope readers take away from this book?

That you are capable of more than you know. Self-doubt is simply a construct. You have an internal strength and wisdom waiting for you to discover that will guide you to live your best life.

True Empowerment

Alexandra Elinsky PhD Author Interview

Girl Grit: Savage Not Average is a blazing manifesto that exposes the wounds society inflicts on women and rebuilds them into fierce, unshakable self-worth. What moment or experience first sparked the fire that became Girl Grit?

In August of 2022, I was on vacation in Florida, swimming in a pool by myself, when the idea very suddenly hit me all at once. I came home, put pen to paper, and finished my first book GIRL GRIT: SAVAGE NOT AVERAGE in 5 months.

You write with such raw honesty. Were there parts of your story that were hardest to include or share publicly?

Yes and no. I am a mask-off author. True to my nature, I believe in authenticity and the realness of life. The good, the bad, and the ugly. It’s time we are hit with the truth as a society instead of sweeping real problems under the rug while wearing the façade of our ancestors. We will grow and evolve as a society when we face our problems head-on. As an author, I was never going to transform someone’s life overnight by writing about candy canes and gumdrops; I was going to do it through raw honesty, authenticity, and vulnerability were necessary.

The book moves from pain to power. How did you decide where to draw the line between vulnerability and empowerment?

Vulnerability and empowerment go hand in hand. You cannot access one without the other. Willing to be vulnerable is where true empowerment lies. We diminish our empowerment when we hide behind facades, suppress emotions, and refuse to solve problems head-on. People also usually go the route of drinking, drugs, or other addictions. I wasn’t about to go down those dark paths; I was going to take pain and truly turn it into power in an authentic and meaningful way.

If readers take only one message from Girl Grit, what do you hope it is?

Don’t be afraid of what anyone else thinks of you. Live your life authentically and heal others by refusing to put on the show of being perfect and infallible.

Venturing Into Relationships

Katie Slade Author Interview

The Victorious Vagina takes readers on a journey through the highs and lows of modern relationships by sharing your experiences, from flirting to your first date to making a relationship work in the fast-paced life of NY City. Why was this an important book for you to write?

I really wanted to touch the minds and hearts of women when it comes to venturing into relationships. We have been duped into believing sex is what should come first.

What perspectives or beliefs have you challenged with this work?

The idea that sex will capture and keep a man. The feminist movement of the 70’s in America did more harm than good. Giving our precious flower to any and every man will not and has not made us the more powerful gender.

Has writing and publishing a book changed the way you see yourself?

Yes, very much. Years ago, a good friend asked if I thought I had a book in me, and I replied, yes. At the time I had no idea what I would write about, but I knew words would flow from my mind when the time was right.

What is the next book that you are working on, and when will it be available?

My next book is called The Vigilant Vagina – How To Recognize The Power Of The Flower. I hope that it will be available by December. It will conclude the vagina series.

My Own Unique Image

Dr. Shon Shree Lewis Author Interview

The Wonder Wig follows a young girl struggling with her self-esteem due to being uncomfortable with her short hair who discovers wigs and starts to build her confidence. Are there any emotions or memories from your own life that you put into your character’s life?

Yes. There was a time in teen life I felt insecure about my hair being shorter than others. I felt wigs would make me look more beautiful. As I became an adult, I learned to accept my own unique image and to value my self-image with my natural hair and length.

What were some themes that were important for you to explore in this book?

Women and young girls’ mental health. Self-esteem. Family relationships, and alopecia awareness and support of those with this medical condition. I want women to feel self-worth and have resources to help them value themselves.

Will this novel be the start of a series, or are you working on a different story?

Yes, it is. Likely I will.

A lady named Brooke Bell, insecure about her short hair and appearance, journeys from teen to adulthood and suddenly finds identity and refuge in a special wavy blond-brown wig from her aunt’s hair salon. She later begins to discover a new identity that changes her entire life.

Proud in Her Hijab

Iman is teased at lunch one day by her classmates that do not understand what the hijab is and what it means. She goes home really upset and tells her family what happened. Iman’s mother, sister, and brother validate her feelings and help her see how she is not odd and has no reason to be ashamed of her hijab. They have a long conversation about each of their differences and how they each feel about their different hairstyles. Her mother reminds her that doing hair together is part of their family bonding and traditions.

Proud in Her Hijab: A Story of Family Strength, Empowerment, and Identity is a heartwarming picture book that will not only educate but help young girls feel confident in their choices. While this story focuses on a young Muslim girl wearing her hijab, the message does apply to all children because everyone is unique.

Author Zinet Kemal has written a beautiful children’s book in a way that is conversational, easy to understand, and relatable to children in elementary school. Kemal delicately approaches a difficult topic. Rather than just brushing it off after the family talks, Iman confronts her classmates to educate them and let them know their behavior is hurtful. Iman learns to take pride in her identity and speak up for herself, this is a great message to pass on to young children, especially girls.

This colorful picture book is illustrated by Mia Hay. The illustrations are bold and bright, and the characters are brought to life through these striking images. The combination of the fantastic illustrations and Kemal’s description of the hijab will draw in young readers and encourage them to learn more.

Proud in Her Hijab: A Story of Family Strength, Empowerment, and Identity is a well-conceived and educational picture book for young readers. This is an excellent resource for teachers and parents to teach about diversity and inclusion, different cultures, and kindness.

Escape Their Golden Cages

Margot Zaher Author Interview

Margot Zaher Author Interview

The Golden Cage is an inspirational book that shares your life experiences to help people break out of their personal cages. Why was this an important book for you to write?

This book was really important for me to write because I want to change the world for the better. I want to motivate and inspire others to really go for their hearts’ dreams instead of settling in their lives. I know that the world would be a more joyful and compassionate place if we were all following our hearts.

You use the golden cage metaphor throughout the book. How did this idea start and develop while writing?

I had a vision of the cage when I thought about writing the book. I really did not fully understand what it meant. When I started writing it, the entire meaning unfolded. I wrote 35,000 words of the book in two days. It was a download more than anything else.

I found this book to be uplifting. What do you hope readers take away from this book?

I would like my readers to know that they have the ability to escape their Golden Cages, and that they can do this by following some of the steps I outlined. I want them to know that they do not have to settle, but can really go for what they want and deserve in their lives.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

I’m working on a book about pushing your edges and allowing fear to guide you into the unknown in a healthy way. It should be completed by the Fall.

Perpetrators of Hate-Filled Hearts

Lucia Mann Author Interview

Lucia Mann Author Interview

Addicted to Hate is an engaging story that follows Madeline through many obstacles in her troubled life. What was the inspiration for the idea behind this novel?

The inspiration for this novel is the hope that I can empower other hurting, shattered souls who feel helpless and hopeless, and who are hiding beneath a veil of shame, like I did.

Madeline is a character I was able to empathize with. What were some driving ideals behind her character development?

I’m a survivor of horrendous parent abuse, and other nightmarish sufferings, imposed on me by perpetrators of hate-filled hearts. Being of rational, intelligence thinking, I tried to theorize what was happening to me, thought about the monstrosity of another person putting his or her ideas above another’s. The abuse went too far and for too long. Finally I realized I am not a pathetic victim. My epiphany sounded like this: I am a strong, dynamic person. I am sick to death of being abused, humiliated, and threatened. It is time to do something. It is time for ME to change! The turnaround – The right to say NO. The right to peace in senior age. The right to freedom. The right to my own happiness. The right to be “imperfect.”

The concept of love, family and abuse played were compelling drivers in this story. What were some themes that were important for you to capture in this story?

I’m hoping to see this book’s release sometime after summer 2019. The theme behind all five books is: Have self-respect… self-resilience, it is your right! You are not to blame for others wrongdoings. Get rid of any nasty memories stored from your hippocampus that traps the human trait of wallowing, and shred them. The saying goes: “If you want a future, don’t live in the past.”

What do you hope readers take away from your book?

An adult child should never… ever… mishandle a parent, even if he or she is convinced the mother or father deserves it. Like most survivors, I have much to teach about bravery and emotional resilience, and so I wrote Addicted to Hate. The message in this book is: “If you are an abused parent, it’s time for you to consider following in my footsteps. Please recognize that YOU are not to blame for the hard-wired brains that seek to destroy you. And never ask yourself how and why did I let this happen! Divorce yourself (the freedom to disown) from the raw pain that has been “bestowed” upon you by an unconscionable abuser. Suffering won’t kill you … death will! This relating adage is found in all my books with a profound message: “Love does not conquer hate! Even clinically trained minds cannot truly have the answer to heredity bad markers … bad seeds that exist.” This is the theme in my new book “Lela’s Endless Incarnation Sorrows.” (You live and die, and repeat.)

It’s remarkable what you can discover from a little saliva! DNA explains how we got here… over millions of years. I chose to believe that my first (Ashkenazi) imprint on this earth has a lot to do with who I am today in this century. So it begs the question” Does the Law of Karma for the sole-called sins of the forefathers and foremothers, play a roll in generational rebirths. Is it a real cold-hearted fact that some humans are just born BAD?

Addicted to Hate by [Mann, Lucia]

Maddie’s story raises the time-honored question of nature vs. nurture.

Parents abused by adult children suffer silently, shamed to the marrow by words, moods, acts, and blows that pierce through their imagined bubble of safety and kidnap any notions they had of sharing a mutually loving relationship with their children.

Maddie loved her daughters unconditionally . . . until, as a financially depleted and physically bruised senior citizen, she was forced to cut ties permanently with her adult descendants. Maddie’s cruel and dysfunctional upbringing prompted her to smother her children with love, to soften the blows of life, even when consequences would have been a healthier, more effective choice.

Spiritual Growth Requires Action

Angelo Lowery Author Interview

Angelo Lowery Author Interview

I Am and the Spirit Walks with Me shares real life experiences to show readers how to attain a higher level of consciousness and healthier spiritual living. Why was this an important book for you to write?

My life was tragedy after tragedy enough to break anyone down I was walking and existing in a very dark place. Regardless of what I was going through not knowing love and just being on this planet with no one to connect to there was something there deep inside me that allowed me to keep hanging on and to never give up. There were thoughts of suicide there were alcohol and drugs around me. There were thoughts of taking my life via self-harm using many methods but the spirit within me was stronger than my situations, circumstances, and problems. Holding on to the belief that there had to be a better life for me and not giving up through the darkness I found Gods light and it is glorious. My heart went out to all those who have suffered abuse or is going through situations, circumstances, and problems in their life. I wanted to connect so that they know to keep fighting don’t give up you are stronger than the darkness and weakness you are and have experienced in your life.

In this book you discuss the spiritual pathways toward higher consciousness. What is a common misconception people have when taking this journey and how can they overcome it?

Spiritual growth requires action if we are seeking the best out of life we must accept that there will be paradigm shifts. Don’t get comfortable with where you are. Elevated consciousness means change not being ok with where you are in the now. Many have the misconception that because they have seen someone for healing it took care of what they need in many cases it did and you walked away feeling better, however you are in control of your life and you must take action daily to contribute to your spiritual growth. Move out of the shadow of dependency and giving your power to someone else. Many have the misconception that they’ve said their affirmations for the day and that this is all it takes. We must clean the slate of our mind for any affirmations to work this means self-mastery work dumping your baggage of situations that impacted your life forgiving yourself for it and others. Do a self-work by using the people in your life be an observer witness of how you feel when people say things if an uncomfortable feeling surfaces write it down don’t blame the other party you called them into your life to help you transcend use what they say to empower you. If you felt hurt when they said something, ask yourself why did you feel hurt they only triggered something deep within you that requires healing. If it is sorrow you feel un-create, delete, and destroy it in the now and across all time dimension space and reality this is how you rid it and you began to heal and feel lighter. If you pay attention you can feel the negative energy of it leaving your body.

This book is good at helping readers examine and understand themselves. What do you hope readers take away from this book?

Faith, Belief, and Trust in themselves don’t look to others to find it search within all you need is within you the answers are there waiting for you to unlock the mysteries of your own life. Create a connection with spirit and just trust your own inner guidance and intuition. It is magical. Surrender your control to your own inner spirit it brings your power and control back to you and makes you stronger than ever.

What is the next book that you are working on and when will it be available?

The next book will dive deeper into being trapped in my own body living a life of existing and not being able to identify with it, however a deeper knowing that something didn’t feel right. I will be sharing healing techniques that one can use to bring healing to themselves and real-life story events, and cases of how the techniques have saved not only my life but the lives of others. Revealing and disclosing an epidemic that is swooping the universe and how it’s being associated with everyday common diagnosis causing us to overlook truth. I anticipate the deliverance of this book early in 2019.

Author Links: GoodReadsTwitterFacebookWebsite

In my book, I share a variety of examples that are real life-related events, and how each negative event created negative brain patterns. Negative experiences can be transformed into positive brain patterns which create a healthier way of living, and open spiritual pathways toward higher consciousness.

It feels great to be in a state of awareness, and consciousness to know where my life is heading. The things that impacted my life that kept me closed up for so many years no longer have a hold on me. It wasn’t always that way. I had taken on victim energy, and through my transformation, I learned how to release this energy and regain my power. Overcoming these traumas has opened my heart to sharing information as a healing tool for many other people.

My goal is to reach and transform as many lives as possible to awaken other people to this same level of consciousness, one soul at a time tarting with mine. I am inspired and motivated by the outer realms of my mind that which I see but may not yet be visible to others. I try to stay open at all times to receive new information to deliver to those who are open to new possibilities and want to receive healing for the body-mind-spirit.
