Help Me Understand the Bible

Help Me Understand the Bible by Clarence Whetstone is an educational book which aims to help the reader understand the Bible on a deeper level. The book focuses on creating a new perspective of the Bible to enable readers to better understand the lessons contained within. It addresses the fact that people often look at the Bible from a Greek and western view. Help Me Understand the Bible helps the reader alter their mindset and view the Bible from the perspective in which many of the books it contains were written: Hebrew.

The author tackles the subject of perspective well by looking at individual words, phrases and imagery used in the Bible and looks at what they mean from the Hebrew perspective. The author also introduces each chapter well by beginning each section with two characters who have an initial conversation that will be unwrapped. Additionally, when looking at verses and parables in the Bible, the author gives the reader a clearer understanding of the passage it addresses and includes good references to other books in the Bible.

One of the most interesting parts of this book is when the author addresses the parable of the Good Samaritan. The author addresses the cultural differences between the people in the parable and then discreetly challenges the reader to use this story as an example of how Christians should break unhealthy social norms.

This book conveys the information in simple to understand language. You don’t need a degree in theology to understand the ideas expressed in this book. I enjoyed how this does not reads like your average theological book. It feels much more like you are listening to a knowledgeable friend, minister, or pastor explain things to you on your level. The author raises valuable points throughout the book that offer plenty of information to reflect on.

I would recommend Help Me Understand the Bible to anyone who is ready to change their perspective on the Bible and is ready to approach the Bible in a new way. This is an educational book that can help modern readers understand the culture, language and time the Bible was written in, and in so doing it provides a better understanding of the Bible.

Minotaur’s Lair

Minotaur’s Lair – Servant of the Gods – Book Three by Luciana Cavallaro is the final installment in the trilogy, which follows Evan, who must face Queen Antioche and stop the Dark Master from becoming a deity. If the Dark Master successfully gains this power, Evan and his alliances face an uncertain future. There are many unexpected twists throughout his journey and fate, making this book an incredible read.

The story maintains a consistent pace that conjures excitement from the start. Cavallaro creates an action-packed tale with elements of ancient mythology and mystical places, contrasting with time travel and modern technology. Evan must quickly adapt and learn how his quest shifts from one challenge to the next, whether Queen Antioch attempts to entice him with tempting gifts and promises or he becomes face-to-face with a new enemy. He must also follow his father’s legacy by locating a sacred artifact while defeating his captors.

Cavallaro’s fantastic writing style is sharp and descriptive without slowing the story’s pace. The author thoroughly researches the architecture, landscapes, and scenarios in mythology. It’s a fantastic adventure full of exciting developments and lively characters. As the story delves into the thrilling mythology of an ancient world, Evan becomes eager to find a way home to his time in the future.

I found this book, and the trilogy, an excellent story that’s engaging and enjoyable from start to finish. The author does a fantastic job of creating an intricate world with layers of fascinating developments and characters that keep the reader moving from one chapter to the next. Minotaur’s Lair – Servant of the Gods – Book Three by Luciana Cavallaro is an excellent read for science fiction and fantasy fans. I recommend the trilogy and look forward to more books from this author.

Grief

Grief: The Beacon of Love is a collection of 12 notes which provide insight into how to cope with the loss of a loved one. The text relies heavily on personal experiences but strives to be universal. The author, Carolyn Begley Daley, mentions medical solutions such as seeking a therapist’s help or taking medication are valid and sometimes needed. That said, this inspirational book focus on the use of faith and religion in order to deal with grief.

The last few notes focus on the grieving process many felt during the COVID-19 pandemic and how much it has changed people’s coping mechanisms. The author believes love is the answer to finding a path through all kinds of grief. As long as one loves God and the little things in life, one can push through anything.

Grief contains some beautiful ideas and will have the reader highlighting or underlining many sentences that will accompany them in their journey. I believe even a reader who is not grieving could learn from this book. The two main takeaways are that community is essential to people’s healing and that ignoring one’s feelings will eventually lead to anxiety and depression.

The 12 notes that his book revolves around are centered around Christian beliefs. Even if it appears as though the book is meant to be universal, all the notes’ conclusions refer back to scriptures and one’s relationship with God and Jesus. Additionally, many of the arguments are repeated throughout the whole book. I felt that it could be more concise and still give out the message it wanted to give.

Grief: The Beacon of Love by Carolyn Begley Daley is an inspirational self-help book that focuses on the reader’s relationship with God and Jesus. This relationship is the foundation for overcoming grief. It is an excellent book for someone who needs to understand that they are not the only ones going through this pain or looking for what steps to take in order to go forward.

The Good News According to Jesus

The Good News According to Jesus: The Message and Resurrection of Jesus for the Mission of the Church is a book that can be used as excellent reference material for Jesus’ teachings. The author analyzes the bible extensively and writes about the word of God perfectly for the average reader to understand. The author discusses a variety of topics that give clarity to significant spiritual issues and are helpful in the Christian life. One of the most notable things one will notice in this well-researched book is the author’s inclusion of bible scriptures. Every topic discussed has a reference to its bible verse, which is an ideal way of getting one to read the bible. The author has relevant verses for every chapter and also discusses in depth the significance of the word of God.

After the introduction, the author starts by discussing new testament books. What do you know about the life of Jesus when he was on earth? Do religious books write enough about Jesus’ time, his purpose, and why he died? The author broadly covers the life of Jesus and his relations and writes about his work. I appreciate that the author poses questions as he writes and answers them satisfactorily. I was enlightened as I read about the death of Jesus, the challenges he faced, and the opposition he had to deal with. The author is thorough. One of his strengths is knowing how to break down a single event in the bible to share multiple lessons about Christianity and contemporary life.

The author, Donald Blosser, is unpretentious in his writing and emphasizes truths. In his thought-provoking book, the reader is introduced to fresh topics as the author discusses insightfully the role of religion. As a Christian, one gets the fulfillment of learning about the bible and following God’s teachings. The author’s use of simple terms and a friendly attitude make this book intriguing. He uses words that are easy to comprehend and engages the reader through the question and biblical references he has. He is also inspirational and uses an encouraging tone. This makes the book accessible to a wider range of readers, and not just religious scholars.

The Good News According to Jesus, is the ultimate guide to leading a Christian life. The author is open-minded and discusses issues that affect Christians in the modern world. He compares times in the bible and speaks of today’s ills as he shares what the Lord wants his people to do.  I recommend this book to Christian believers and individuals who want to renew their hope.

Christmas Begins With Christ

Have you ever wondered what Christmas was all about? Why do we get presents and celebrate with our loved ones? In Christmas Begins with Christ by Gina Kirkland, we are taken on a beautifully magical explanation of the meaning of Christmas. The story is told through poetic prose and charms you quite thoroughly from your head to your toes.

The author does a splendid job incorporating the Christian faith along with other non-religious traditions that all play along in the celebration of Christmas. The illustrations by Marissa Napolitano are so magical and whimsical that, as an avid reader, I found it hard to turn the page. The characters and backgrounds were awe-inspiringly gorgeous and added to the rhythmic tone of the author’s words.

This is a perfect story not just for young readers but adults as well. It truly felt like Christmas to me, and it would be a great addition to my own family’s holiday reading library to get us in the spirit. The dedications from the author to her family were tear-worthy and left me blurry-eyed before I even started the story. I am so glad she was motivated to write this book because it was simply meant to be. It’s like when you read an amazing book and just know it was fated to be written, and you can’t stop recommending it. This is one of those books. It was dazzling from start to finish. I look forward to reading more books from this author and undoubtedly adding them to my family’s reading library.

Christmas Begins with Christ is a magical Christian-based picture book teaching children about the meaning of Christmas. This educational story will entertain and enlighten young children as they follow along through the pages.

Don’t Let Me Go

Don’t Let Me Go is a high school love story building up to marriage, but for Jenny and Adam, the true test starts after marriage. Jenny pushes Adam away for a reason unknown. Before she answers any questions, she gets kidnapped, and the chase starts. With Adam striving to find his love, a love who doesn’t want to be his wife anymore, this story will make you believe in real companionship.

Don’t Let Me Go by Jodi Artzberger is a romantic thriller that will keep you on your toes from the first page. The story starts with suspense and subtly weaves in romance while the plot maintains the thrill. The characters are relatable and interesting. Some parts will make you question the goodness of the characters. There is a clear distinction between good and evil, which supports the conventional story writing aspect but might lack the depth of characterization for some readers.

The author has taken her strong Christian values and infused her novel with a gospel-centered storyline. Faith plays a strong part in character development, as well as plot development. Readers that prefer a more Christian view on romance will find Jodie Artzberger has created relationships that center around God and model the values of the Christian faith.

As the story progresses, you can see faith building up. It aptly symbolizes how marital troubles are resolved in times of crisis. It also conveys that protecting our loved ones is done better by companionship. The book explores the themes of love, forgiveness, and faith. Many subplots run parallel to the main plot without interrupting its flow which adds depth to the narration.

Don’t Let Me Go is a suspenseful Christian mystery with a romantic story intertwined. The author is successful in building up tension and skillfully easing it out in the end. This was a great mystery, as well as a lesson on learning to forgive and trust the people you care about.
